Chapter Twenty Five: Great Disappointment

Orthak stood in front of Arkain.

Roselyn

Suri, get to the trees, once inside the White Coats will be alerted.

Suri

Yeah, if we can get passed him.

Roselyn

I will fight him.

Arkain did not back down.

Arkain

You’re a monster.

Orthak did not respond.

Arkain

What you can’t-

Orthak’s hand was now on Arkain’s neck.

Roselyn

Damn!

An arrow hit Orthak in the stomach. Instead of knocking him back, it sunk in until it was gone.

Roselyn

Run!

Suri, Conor, and Nicholas ran for the forest. Roselyn put her hand on the ground.

Roselyn

Rise, my old friend.

The ground Orthak stood on rose to the sky and he let go of Arkain.

Roselyn

Arkain, follow the others.

Arkain

I want to stay and fight.

Roselyn

His power exceeds yours by a margin greater than you think.

Arkain

I can still take him.

Roselyn

Go!

Arkain turned to the forest, just as he was about to go in a giant black wall appeared blocking his path.

Arkain

What do I do now?

Roselyn

Keep yourself alive.

Inside the forest a portal opened and Hayden stepped out.

Suri

Roselyn and Arkain are back there father!

Hayden

He is here.

Suri

Orthak.

Hayden

Yes. And these two are?

Suri

We can talk later.

Hayden

I will send Merdos and Masato.

Roselyn shot an arrow up and it hit the ground below Orthak.

Roselyn

Lets see you work your way out of this one.

Giant wood like rectangles emerged from the sides and circled around Orthak until he was in a ball of wood and could not be seen.

Arkain

Keep him busy.

Arkain’s wings beat in the air. The wall moved and Arkain was knocked to the floor.

Roselyn

Arkain!

Orthak stepped out of the wall. He raised his hand and giant black walls appeared around Roselyn.

Arkain

So you have some tricks.

Arkain stood up.

Arkain

I’m still not afraid.

Arkain put his fist into Orthak’s chest. His fist sunk through. Although his arm was going more into Orthak, it was not coming out the back.

Arkain

What the hell are you doing?

There was now a searing pain on Arkain’s arm and he screamed in pain.

Arkain

Shit!

He was now going to pass out from the pain. Before his eyes closed he saw an orange figure fly into his body. Arkain flew across the floor, rolling in the dirt. A giant orange tiger stood in front of Orthak. A giant white tiger growled behind Orthak.

Soldier’s voice

This is the Solace Police, please remain calm and this will be over soon. 
A giant Gear appeared behind them all.

Arkain

This just gets better and better.

Arkain slowly picked himself up from the ground, his wings moved in the air.

Soldier’s voice

Arkain!

Orthak turned towards the Gear. The wall that blocked the forest lifted itself and formed into giant piercing darts and crashed into the Gear and it exploded.

Arkain

Fuck!

Arkain stretched his wings above him to avoid giant metal parts flying down. The giant cats transformed themselves into humans. Merdos had long orange hair in a ponytail while Masato’s grey hair flowed downwards.

Merdos

Protect the boy, I’ll get the lady.

Masato

Of course.

Masato stood by Arkain.

Masato

Having fun, boy?

Arkain

A blast.

Merdos ran his hand across the black wall and it split in half and collapsed.

Roselyn

Thank you.

Merdos

I am Merdos, pleasure to help a lovely woman.

Roselyn

Roselyn, of the New Order.

Roselyn picked up her arrow and shot it.

Roselyn

Bastard!

The arrow hit Orthak in the neck and sunk in like the other. Orthak’s darkness arose from the floor below her and wrapped itself around her bow.

Roselyn

No!

She dropped it to the ground and it disappeared. Masato charged Orthak. Orthak fell to the floor and lifted his legs into Masato’s chest.

Merdos

So he can fight too.

Merdos ran forward. Roselyn drew a thin curved blade and charged along with Masato. Orthak dodged Merdos and Masato's hands and Roselyn’s blade with ease.

Roselyn

Die demon!

Merdos’ hand connected with Orthak’s neck and Orthak’s all black head fell to the ground.

Merdos

That wasn’t so hard.

Orthak’s body didn't fall to the ground, it just stood in place.

Merdos

Well, lets help him out then.

Merdos walked forward and put his hand on the body to tip it over.

Merdos

Shit!

Orthak’s body grabbed his wrist and Orthak entered his body.

Roselyn

His power is beyond ours.

Merdos

You said it.

Merdos lunged at Roselyn, as she jumped back to Arkain.

Roselyn

We have to get out of here.

Iris

I don’t think so.

Roselyn flew across the grounds hitting the floor until she bashed into a tree.

Iris

Hello, Arkain.

Masato turned towards Iris and tried to attack but was thrown across the field as well.

Ilias

Children, we don’t have time for you.

Arkain

You did that to them?

Ilias

I did that.

Arkain gulped.

Iris

You’re coming with us.

Arkain

No, I’m not.

Iris

So be it.

Arkain felt his body snap together.

Iris

I’ve put a shield all over your body, it is now impossible for you to move.

Orthak pulled out from Merdos’ body and Merdos fell to the ground unconscious.

Ilias

You did well Orthak, now go home.

Orthak disappeared.

Hayden

Do you think you’re leaving that easily?

Ilias

We do.

Hayden

Hand me the boy.

Roselyn stood up by the tree, using it as support.

Hayden

I will not ask you again.

Iris

I will kill the boy. My shield will smash his body if you’d rather have it that way.

Hayden

You wouldn’t.

Iris

Oh, but I would. My swim was ruined because of this, and I’d like to either take him or kill him.

Roselyn

We can kill them.

Hayden

No, we cannot. Take him, but we will be coming for him soon.

Ilias

Or will it be us for you? Now that we know where you call home.

Ilias winked.

Hayden

Come and you will all die.

Ilias

I’m looking forward to it. Snacks as well.

Arkain

Hayden, don’t let them take me!

Hayden

Arkain, this is out of my hands.

They disappeared. Roselyn fell to her knees.

Roselyn

We failed him.

Hayden

A great disappointment.
